(Cincinnati, Oh.)-A $2.3 million dollar gift to Smale Riverfront Park from the Gardner Family, will establish the Gardner Family Grove and Rose Garden.
The James J. and Joan A. Gardner Family Foundation, provides grants for Higher Education, Health and Medicine, the Arts and Humanities and the Environment.
The new grove and garden will be west of the Roebling Suspension Bridge and south of Mehring Way. The grove will be across from the carousel and near the Castellini Esplanade, a picnic terrace and the Vine Street Water Garden.
The design for the new grove and garden includes 80 shade trees. 11,000 square feet of Rose Garden with a center lawn area surrounded by planting beds. The lawn area is capable of hosting weddings and special events for about 150 to 175 people.
Susan Dorward, Executive Director of the Cincinnati Parks Foundation say they plan of holding 7 Ribbon Cuttings next year that includes the Carrousel and the pavilion underneath, the water feature surrounding the carrousel and the rose garden and tree grove.
Dorward, says the park has "already experienced over a million people who've come to Smale Riverfront Park in the first year that it opened."
