Tri-State Fires; One Dead

( Tri-State ) - Firefighters were kept busy at several unrelated locations that burned on Friday afternoon.

At about 2 o'clock, crews were called to a home in the 1100 block of E Rookwood Drive in Hyde Park. The flames from the second floor were put out in about 15 minutes, and a woman was able to escape, but a second person wasn't.  Damage to the house is $100,000.

Firefighters say 96 year old George Drew tried to put the flames out himself, but was caught up in the smoke.  He was brought outside, and transported to UC Medical Center, where he died, Saturday morning.

Just before 5pm, two people were reported trapped on the roof of a house in the 2300 block of Concord in Walnut Hills. Those two people were able to get down on their own using a ladder. Fire damage was contained to the roof, but much of the building has water damage. Three adults and three children are getting help from the Red Cross.

Multiple fire crews were called to the Prospect Place condominium subdivision on Friday evening for a fire. Neighbors apparently ran door-to-door to warn others to get out of the buildings in the 2800 block of Cliffview Drive just off Amsterdam Road. No word on any injuries at that site.
