(Cincinnati)--Father Michael Graham has said that personel reductions will go into effect for Xavier in the 2014 fiscal year. Xavier hopes to make $800,000 in staff reductions as part of a bigger savings plan. Graham says that with the impending personel cuts and 4 million dollars more in cost saving measures, the school should have a balanced operating budget for 2014.
Graham points to a couple of reasons for the cuts. He says that student body growth is very modest and student retention is much lower than expected. Summer enrollment is also down.
Graham notes that this the first time that Xavier has had to cut faculty or staff. He says that the time has come to make important but difficult decisions for what matters most in the long haul. He says that those decisions will be made by mid-July.
